about
lil demo, hope you enjoy!
tree clarification: on the cover you can see that I'm climbing a spectacular, centuries-old shagbark hickory (carya ovata), one of three standing watch over a good friend's grave. thankful for those shaggy brethren. *however* i was inspired to write this song after a climb in an american hornbeam (carpinus caroliniana). i took some artistic license and changed it in the lyrics to the american hophornbeam (ostrya virginiana) because the name fit the cadence of the song. both are commonly known as ironwood. just so ya know.
lyrics
Eyes like an owl
Walk like a fox
Eyes like an owl
Walk like a fox
Climb on up that hophornbeam
Branching out veins of iron
Listen to the bluebirds whistle a tune
As red wine rains down on the ground
Take another look around
Eyes like an owl
Walk like a fox
Eyes like an owl
Walk like a fox
Rolling in the rich auburn leaves
Lifted by the autumn breeze
Taste the salt earth on her skin
And you're both scattered ashes
All I ever wanted was this
Prostrate in the grass
I know you wanted
More than that
